My Top 5 picks of Nude Shades

Finding that perfect nude shade for the lips is a task in itself, isn’t it?

Pheww! So a decent amount of research and a million swatches at the counters later, I have finally compiled 5 ‘my lips but better’ shades which goes amazingly with my medium Indian skin tone and would probably go with any skin colour too.

The Body Shop- Oils Of Life Intensely Revitalising Gel Cream

The Body Shop (TBS) recently came out with a new line of skin care – The Oils of Life range. The range has 4 items; 2 moisturisers (one for oily/combo, one for normal/dry), an essence lotion and a facial oil. All the products contain three main oils: black cumin seed, camellia oil and rosehip oil.

TBS has really stepped up in their skin care game and The Intensely Revitalising Gel Cream really deserves a mention  and a pat on the back.

As the name suggests the consistency is somewhere between a gel and a light cream. The texture is simply beautiful -smooth and extremely light weight.

Looking at this amber coloured gel-cream at the store, I was not quite sure how my sometime-normal-sometime-oily skin would take it since it had oils in it, but surprisingly after a little slather on my wrist, my skin absorbed within seconds and it plumped up, looking hydrated (thanks to the aircons). The store lady said that it was meant for oily/combination skin types and the oils in the product will not make the skin oil-slick but would make it supple and bright.

And she was right!

I have been using the gel-cream everyday in the morning and before going to bed since my purchase and I like it a lot. It has a very slight pearly sheen to it which makes the skin glowy. If I have to wear makeup, its goes on smoothly on top of the moisturiser. For me it is perfect for an everyday moisturiser.

The product comes in a luxurious glass jar and the smell of it is just amazing, I wouldn’t even try to explain how calming it is!

Although the whole range is slightly on the spendy side than the other TBS ranges, but the gel-cream is well worth the price tag.

So next time do pop by TBS store and ask for sample to try.

Lancôme Miracle Cushion review

lancome-miracle-cushion-5Finally I jumped onto the cushion foundation bandwagon! Yayyy ! I know, I know, its nothing new, especially in this part of the world (Asia) but it was new to me, since I had never used one till date.

Torn between the various options available in the stores, I thought of giving Lancôme a try, being one of my favourite brands for skin care and mascaras. Lancôme came out with their cushion foundations earlier last year and after reading few reviews online I was very excited to see what the big hoopla was all about.

So the Lancôme Miracle Cushion is a lightweight foundation with sheer to medium coverage, which is perfect for everyday wear. The uniqueness lies in its design and the formula. The liquid foundation is inside a spongy cushion which comes in a round mirrored case. Although I am not a big fan of the dab on sponge applicator, I find that it’s perfect for the on-the-go touch ups.

The formula is more watery than other normal foundations but still has enough coverage to even out the skin tone in one application. I am more of a BB cream/tinted moisturiser kinda person, so for me it just gives the perfect amount of light to medium coverage making me look put-together for everyday. The more you press on the disc like cushion pad, the more foundation comes out. It is definitely build-able  giving the ‘your skin but better’ look. It claims to give you a dewy, healthy and radiant finish and surprisingly it lives up to the claim. The SPF 23 is a bonus too!

The 14g refill (cushion) comes for S$55 and the first time buyers need to buy the case separately which is S$20. No doubt it is a pricey foundation with a whopping price tag of S$75! And especially for the amount of actual product that you get and also when compared with the other foundations available in the market. But then again I feel I use less of the product than usual and the resulting finish that I get is amazing ! Ohhh the justifications !!

It comes in a good range of colours suitable for most skin tones. That is always my concern – the colour has to be natural, very close to my complexion. I got myself no. 03 Beige Pêche, which is a perfect match!

I keep feeling that this product gives me the ‘eight glasses of water a day’ glow!

Have you tried it? Let me know how you feel about it or if you have other suggestions.

Have a great day.

Superfood face masks from The Body Shop

I get drawn to the word “superfood” like a moth to the flames. So when The Body Shop (TBS) came out with their new range of superfood face masks with 100% vegetarian ingredients (some are actually 100% vegan), it was too much for me not to try them.

TBS opening their new concept store at Ion Orchard (a large mall in Singapore) in my birthday month was purely coincidental and it would have been a shame not to grab the birthday offer, so the trip to the store was a must!

Let me get straight to the new line of products they came out with – five different kinds of facial masks packed with goodness of various superfoods, targeting different skin concerns, with no parabens, paraffins, silicone or mineral oils.

  • Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask (100% vegan)
  • British Rose Fresh Plumping Mask (100% vegan)
  • Ethiopian Honey Deep Nourishing Mask
  • Chinese Ginseng & Rice Clarifying Polishing Mask
  • Amazonian Acai Energising Radiance Mask (100% vegan)

Simply but beautifully packed in tubs, these are priced at SGD 32.90 each.

The kind lady at the counter advised me to try few of the masks from the range depending upon my skin type (which is combination, prone to acne during certain days of the month) and my preference of what kind of result I was looking for (radiance and even skin tone). The textures for all the masks felt amazing on my hand – few had a cooling tingling effect while others plumped up the skin almost immediately! So a happy me got home with a bag of 3 superfood masks:

Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask (100% vegan)

This is a charcoal clay mask, with cooling green tea leaves and tea tree oil (which is a best-selling TBS product). It has a tingling effect  when used and instantly deep cleanses the skin taking out the gunk and dirt, leaving it feeling fresh and rejuvenated.

Chinese Ginseng & Rice Clarifying Polishing Mask

Every time I use it, it reminds me of my Mom forcing me to put  ground  rice and lentils pack on my face during holidays! Wish I had listened to her!

This pack has all the benefits of rice and Ginseng extract, it polishes the skin with the gritty granules and makes it look cleaner, visibly reducing the pores and unevenness. The smell is very earthy and raw.

Amazonian Acai Energising Radiance Mask (100% vegan)

Oh My God!!! This is the best of all for sure. This gel textured mask has Acai berry extract and Guarana seed extract from Brazil. The glow and radiance after using the mask is unbelievable. It claims to fight appearance of fatigue and boost radiance, and it does live up to the claims.

Me and my friend recently spent an afternoon together trying the masks on and she was pleasantly surprised to see the difference the mask made. We had tried the Charcoal mask which detoxed and purified the skin first and then the Acai mask gave radiance and rejuvenated the skin!

I had bought all the 3 above mentioned masks and was given few samples of the British Rose Fresh Plumping Mask (100% vegan) to try. It does have the same British Rose fragrance (a separate TBS line of product) and it felt amazingly cool and relaxing on the skin and the floral smell is just too nice. But unfortunately it didn’t really do anything dramatic to my skin, but nevertheless the experience was dreamy.

All these masks are supposed to be put on 2-3 times a week, for 5-10 minutes each and rinsed off with slight exfoliation. They can be mixed and matched for multi masking also.

These are available at all the TBS stores.
